DTC P2229 [AJ]

BME010202200W02

DTC P2229

EGR boost sensor circuit high input

DETECTION CONDITION

• PCM monitors input voltage from EGR boost sensor. If input voltage at the PCM terminal 37 is above 4.8 V, the PCM determines that the EGR boost sensor circuit has malfunction.
Diagnostic support note
• This is a continuous monitor (CCM).
• The MIL illuminates if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition in the first drive cycle.
• PENDING CODE is available if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition.
• FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
• DTC is stored in the PCM memory.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• EGR boost sensor malfunction
• Connector or terminal malfunction
• Open circuit in wiring between EGR boost sensor terminal A and PCM terminal 20
• Open circuit in wiring between EGR boost sensor terminal B and PCM terminal 37
• Short to power circuit in wiring between EGR boost sensor terminal B and PCM terminal 37
• PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
• Has FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record FREEZE FRAME DATA on repair order, then go to the next step.
2
VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
• Check for related Service Information and/or on-line repair information availability.
• Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
• If the vehicle is not repaired, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY CURRENT INPUT SIGNAL STATUS-IS CONCERN INTERMITTENT OR CONSTANT
• Connect the WDS or equivalent to the DLC-2.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
• Start engine.
• Access BARO PID.
• Is BARO PID below 4.8 V?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Intermittent concern exists. Go to INTERMITTENT CONCERNS TROUBLESHOOTING procedure.
4
INSPECT CONNECTION OF EGR BOOST SENSOR CONNECTOR
• Turn the ignition switch off.
• Verify that the EGR boost sensor connector is connected securely.
• Is connection normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Reconnect the connector, then go to Step 10.
5
INSPECT POOR CONNECTION OF EGR BOOST SENSOR CONNECTOR
• Disconnect the EGR boost sensor connector.
• Check for poor connection (damaged, pulled-out pins, corrosion, etc.).
• Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace suspected terminal, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
6
VERIFY EGR BOOST SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
• Check continuity between EGR boost sensor terminal A (harness-side) and body ground.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Check for open circuit between PCM terminal 20 (harness-side) and EGR boost sensor terminal A (harness-side). Repair or replace suspected harness, then go to Step 10.
7
CHECK PCM CONNECTOR
• Disconnect PCM connector.
• Check for poor connection at terminal 20 (damaged, pulled-out pins, corrosion, etc.).
• Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair terminal, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
8
VERIFY EGR BOOST SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Engine off).
• Measure the voltage between EGR boost sensor terminal B (harness-side) and body ground.
• Is the voltage B+?
Yes
Repair or replace suspected harness, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
9
VERIFY EGR BOOST SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
• Check continuity between EGR boost sensor terminal B (harness-side) and PCM terminal 37 (harness-side).
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace suspected harness, then go to the next step.
10
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P2229 COMPLETED
• Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Engine off).
• Clear the DTC from the memory using the WDS or equivalent.
• Start engine.
• Make sure that IAT PID is above 10 °C {50 °F}
• Is same DTC present?
Yes
Replace PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
11
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
• Perform the "After Repair Procedure".
• Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Troubleshooting completed.
