DTC P2228 [AJ]

BME010202200W01

DTC P2228

EGR boost sensor circuit low input

DETECTION CONDITION

• PCM monitors input voltage from EGR boost sensor. If input voltage at the PCM terminal 37 is below 0.2 V, the PCM determines that the EGR boost sensor circuit has malfunction.
Diagnostic support note
• This is a continuous monitor (CCM).
• The MIL illuminates if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition in the first drive cycle.
• PENDING CODE is available if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition.
• FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
• DTC is stored in the PCM memory.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• EGR boost sensor malfunction
• Connector or terminal malfunction
• Short to ground in wiring between EGR boost sensor terminal B and PCM terminal 37
• Open circuit in wiring between EGR boost sensor terminal C and PCM terminal 33
• PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
• Has FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record FREEZE FRAME DATA on repair order, then go to the next step.
2
VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
• Check for related Service Information and/or on-line repair information availability.
• Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
• If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY CURRENT INPUT SIGNAL STATUS-IS CONCERN INTERMITTENT OR CONSTANT
• Connect the WDS or equivalent to the DLC-2.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
• Start engine.
• Access BARO PID.
• Is BARO PID below 0.2 V?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Intermittent concern exists. Go to INTERMITTENT CONCERNS TROUBLESHOOTING procedure.
4
VERIFY BARO PID WHEN EGR BOOST SENSOR CONNECTOR IS DISCONNECTED
• Disconnect EGR boost sensor connector.
• Is voltage above 4.8 V?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to step 6.
5
CHECK POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT VOLTAGE AT EGR BOOST SENSOR CONNECTOR
Note
• If DTC P0122 is also retrieved with P0107, then go to CONSTANT VOLTAGE troubleshooting procedure.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Engine off).
• Measure voltage between EGR boost sensor terminal C (harness-side) and body ground.
• Is voltage within 4.5- 5.5 V?
Yes
Check for poor connection of EGR boost sensor terminal C (harness-side).
• Repair or replace terminal as necessary.
• If normal, replace EGR boost sensor.
Then go to Step 8.
No
Check for open circuit between PCM terminal 33 (harness-side) and EGR boost sensor terminal C (harness-side).
Repair or replace suspected harness, then go to Step 8.
6
INSPECT EGR BOOST SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
• Turn the ignition switch off.
• Disconnect PCM connector.
• Check continuity between EGR boost sensor terminal B (harness-side) and body ground.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace suspected harness, then go to Step 8.
No
Go to the next step.
7
INSPECT EGR BOOST SENSOR SIGNAL AND GROUND CIRCUIT FOR SHORT EACH OTHER
• Check continuity between EGR boost sensor terminals B and A (harness-side).
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace suspected harness, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
8
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P2228 COMPLETED
• Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Engine off).
• Clear the DTC from the memory using the WDS or equivalent.
• Start engine.
• Access IAT PIDs using the WDS or equivalent.
• Make sure that IAT PID is above 10 °C {50 °F}
• Is same DTC present?
Yes
Replace PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
9
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
• Perform the "After Repair Procedure".
• Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Troubleshooting completed.
