DTC P2006 [L3]

BME010202000201

DTC P2006

VTCS shutter valve stuck closed

DETECTION CONDITION

• The PCM monitors mass air amount. If actual air flow amount is below estimated air flow amount when the following monitoring conditions are met, the PCM determines that the VTCS shutter valve is stuck closed.
MONITORING CONDITIONS
- Engine speed is above 3,750 rpm.
- Engine coolant temperature is above 70 °C {158 °F}.
- Throttle valve opening angle is above threshold*.

*: Maximum calculated load valve varies depending on engine speed

Diagnostic support note
• This is a continuous monitor (CCM).
• MIL illuminates if PCM detects the above malfunction condition in two consecutive drive cycles or in one drive cycle while the DTC for the same malfunction has been stored in the PCM.
• PENDING CODE is available if PCM detects the above malfunction condition during first drive cycle.
• FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
• DTC is stored in PCM memory.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• ECT sensor malfunction
• MAF sensor malfunction
• IAT sensor malfunction
• EGR boost sensor malfunction
• TP sensor malfunction
• CKP sensor malfunction
• Variable tumble control solenoid valve malfunction
• VTCS shutter valve malfunction (stuck closed)
• VTCS shutter valve actuator malfunction (stuck closed).
• Short to ground circuit between variable tumble control solenoid valve terminal B and PCM terminal 4T
• PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
• Has FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record FREEZE FRAME DATA on repair order, then go to the next step.
2
VERIFY RELATED SERVICE INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
• Check for related Service Information availability.
• Is any related Service Information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to available Service Information.
• If vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
3
CLASSIFY INTERMITTENT CONCERN OR CONTINUOUS CONCERN
• Clear DTC from PCM memory using WDS or equipment.
• Drive vehicle under following conditions:
- Engine speed: below 3,500 rpm
- Throttle opening angle is as follows:
• Below 1,500 rpm: 35%
• Between 1,500 - 2,500 rpm: 25-35%
• Above 2,500 rpm: 25%
• Is the PENDING CODE of same DTC present?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Intermittent concern exists. Go to INTERMITTENT CONCERN TROUBLESHOOTING procedure.
4
VERIFY STORED OTHER DTCS
• Verify stored DTCs using WDS or equipment.
• Is any other DTC present except P1512?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSPECT VTCS SHUTTER VALVE ACTUATOR
• Perform "variable tumble control operation inspection"
• Is the VTCS shutter valve actuator normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the VTCS shutter valve actuator, then go to Step 8.
6
INSPECT VARIABLE TUMBLE CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE
• Perform "variable tumble control solenoid valve airflow inspection"
• Is the variable tumble control solenoid valve normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the variable tumble control solenoid valve, then go to Step 8.
7
INSPECT PCM FOR POOR CONNECTION
• Inspect for poor connection at PCM terminal 4T (such as damaged/pulled-out terminals, corrosion).
• Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair the terminal, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
8
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P2006 COMPLETED
• Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
• Start the engine.
• Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the WDS or equipment.
• Start the engine.
• Drive vehicle under following conditions:
- Engine speed: below 3,500 rpm
- Throttle opening angle is as follows:
• Below 1,500 rpm: 35%
• Between 1,500 - 2,500 rpm: 25-35%
• Above 2,500 rpm: 25%
• Is the PENDING CODE of same DTC present?
Yes
Replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
9
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
• Perform "After Repair Procedure".
• Is there any DTC present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Troubleshooting completed.
