DTC P0354

Ignition coil No.4 circuit malfunction

DETECTION CONDITION

• PCM monitors output voltage to ignition coil No.4 when engine is running. If the voltage does not change when the igniter is energized under the following conditions, PCM determines that ignition coil circuit has a malfunction.
MONITORING CONDITIONS
- Engine speed is below 3,000 rpm.
- Battery voltage is 9- 16.5 V.
Diagnostic support note
• This is a continuous monitor (CCM).
• The MIL illuminates if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition in two consecutive drive cycles or in one drive cycle while the DTC for the same malfunction has been stored in the PCM.
• PENDING CODE is available if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition during the first drive cycle.
• FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
• DTC is stored in the PCM memory.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• Connector or terminal malfunction
• Open circuit between PCM terminal 78 and ignition coil No.4 terminal B
• Short to power circuit between PCM terminal 78 and ignition coil No.4 terminal B
• Short to ground circuit between PCM terminal 78 and ignition coil No.4 terminal B
• Open circuit between ignition switch and ignition coil No.4 terminal A
• Ignition coil No.4 malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED

Yes
Repair or replace the terminals, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
4
INSPECT IGNITION COIL POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
• Disconnect ignition coil connector.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Engine off).
• Measure the voltage between ignition coil terminal A (wiring harness-side) and body ground.
• Is the voltage B+?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness for open circuit, then go to Step 10.
5
INSPECT IGNITION COIL SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO POWER
• Measure the voltage between ignition coil terminal B (wiring harness-side) and body ground.
• Is the voltage B+?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness for short to power supply, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
6
INSPECT IGNITION COIL SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
• Inspect for continuity between ignition coil terminal B (wiring harness-side) and body ground.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness for short to ground, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
7
INSPECT PCM CONNECTOR
• Turn the ignition switch off.
• Disconnect the PCM connector.
• Inspect for poor connection (such as damaged/pulled-out terminals, corrosion).
• Is there any malfunction?
Yes
Repair or replace the terminals, then go to Step 10.
No
Go to the next step.
8
INSPECT IGNITION COIL SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
• Inspect for continuity between PCM terminal 78 (wiring harness-side) and ignition coil terminal B (wiring harness-side).
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness for open circuit, then go to Step 10.
9
INSPECT IGNITION COIL
• Inspect ignition coil.
• Is the ignition coil normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Replace the ignition coil, then go to the next step.
10
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P0354 COMPLETED
• Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Engine off).
• Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the WDS or equivalent.
• Start the engine.
• Is the PENDING CODE of same DTC present?
Yes
Replace the PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
