DTC P0122

TP circuit low input

DETECTION CONDITION

• If PCM detects TP sensor voltage at PCM terminal 40 below 0.16 V after key to ON, PCM determines that TP circuit has a malfunction.
Diagnostic support note
• This is a continuous monitor (CCM).
• The MIL illuminates if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition in the first drive cycle.
• PENDING CODE is available if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition.
• FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
• DTC is stored in the PCM memory.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• TP sensor malfunction
• Connector or terminal malfunction
• Open circuit between TP sensor terminal B and PCM terminal 40
• Short to ground circuit between TP sensor terminal B and PCM terminal 40
• Open circuit between TP sensor terminal C and PCM terminal 33
• Short to ground circuit between TP sensor terminal C and PCM terminal 33
• PCM malfunction

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
VERIFY FREEZE FRAME DATA HAS BEEN RECORDED
• Has FREEZE FRAME DATA been recorded?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Record FREEZE FRAME DATA on repair order, then go to the next step.
2
VERIFY RELATED REPAIR INFORMATION AVAILABILITY
• Check for related Service Information and/or on-line repair information availability.
• Is any related repair information available?
Yes
Perform repair or diagnosis according to the available repair information.
• If the vehicle is not repaired, go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
3
VERIFY CURRENT INPUT SIGNAL STATUS - IS CONCERN INTERMITTENT OR CONSTANT
• Connect the PCM connector.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Engine off).
• Check voltage at PCM terminal 40 while gradually depressing accelerator pedal.
• Is voltage below 0.16 V?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Intermittent concern exists. Go to INTERMITTENT CONCERNS TROUBLESHOOTING procedure.
4
CLASSIFY TP SENSOR OR HARNESS MALFUNCTION
• Disconnect TP sensor connector.
• Connect a jumper wire between TP sensor terminals B and C (harness-side).
• Check voltage at PCM terminal 40.
• Is voltage above 4.9 V?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Go to step 6.
5
CHECK TP SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
• Turn the ignition switch off.
• Check continuity between TP sensor terminals B and C (part-side).
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Check for poor TP sensor connector terminal C connection. Repair or replace as necessary, then go to Step 9.
No
Replace TP sensor, then go to Step 9.
6
CHECK POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT VOLTAGE AT TP SENSOR CONNECTOR
Note
• If DTC P0107 is also retrieved with P0122, then go to CONSTANT VOLTAGE troubleshooting procedure.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Engine off).
• Check voltage at TP sensor terminal C (harness-side).
• Is voltage within 4.5- 5.5 V?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace open circuit between TP sensor connector terminal C and PCM connector terminal 33 (harness-side).
Then, then go to Step 9.
7
VERIFY TP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
• Turn the ignition switch off.
• Check continuity between TP sensor terminal B (harness-side) and PCM terminal 40.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Repair or replace suspected harness, then go to Step 9.
8
VERIFY TP SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
• Check continuity between TP sensor terminal B (harness-side) and body ground.
• Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair or replace suspected harness, then go to Step 9.
No
Go to the next step.
9
VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTC P0122 COMPLETED
• Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
• Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Engine off).
• Clear the DTC from the PCM memory using the WDS or equivalent.
• Is same DTC present?
Yes
Replace PCM, then go to the next step.
No
Go to the next step.
10
VERIFY AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE
• Perform the "After Repair Procedure".
• Are any DTCs present?
Yes
Go to the applicable DTC inspection.
No
Troubleshooting completed.
