NO. 1 ONE OR MORE ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTIONS INOPERATIVE

BME090369000W03

• When performing an asterisked (*) troubleshooting inspection, shake the wiring harness and connectors while performing the inspection to discover whether poor contact points are the cause of any intermittent malfunctions. If there is a problem, check to make sure connectors, terminals and wiring harnesses are connected correctly and undamaged.

1

One or more on-board diagnostic functions inoperative

DESCRIPTION

• Malfunction in hazard warning light system (except vehicle with theft-deterrent system),horn system (Australian specs.), door lock linkage system, or driver's door key cylinder switch system.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• Malfunction in horn system (Australian specs.)

• Malfunction in keyless unit door lock/unlock signal circuit
- Keyless unit malfunction
- Malfunction in wiring harness between keyless unit and door lock timer unit

Diagnostic procedure

Note
• For vehicles with theft-deterrent system, follow the procedure from Step 4.

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1

INSPECT HORN AND HAZARD WARNING LIGHT OPERATION DURING ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS

• Did all of the following items work during on-board diagnostic function operation?
- Horns sounded intermittently (Australian specs.)
- Hazard lights flashed
Yes
Go to Step 7.
No
(Australian specs.)
Go to next step.
(Except Australian specs.)
Go to step 6.
2

INSPECT HORN OPERATION DURING ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS

• Did horns sound intermittently during on-board diagnostic function operation?
Yes
Go to step 7.
No
Go to next step.
3

INSPECT HORN CIRCUIT

• Do horns sound when depressing horn switch on vehicle?
Yes
Go to step 6.
No
Inspect horn circuit.
4

INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN KEYLESS UNIT AND HORN RELAY FOR CONTINUITY

• Turn ignition switch LOCK position.
• Disconnect keyless unit connector (16-pin) or short cord connector (12-pin) and horn relay connector.
• Is there continuity between keyless unit connector terminal E or short cord connector terminal E and horn relay connector?
Yes
Replace keyless unit and reprogram keyless unit ID cord, then go to step 11.
No
Repair wiring harness between keyless unit and horn relay, then go to step 11.
5

INSPECT HAZARD WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT

• Do hazard warning lights flash when hazard warning switch is on?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Inspect hazard warning light circuit.
*6

CHECK TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN WIRING HARNESS (BETWEEN KEYLESS UNIT AND FLASHER UNIT) OR KEYLESS UNIT

• Measure voltage at keyless unit connector terminal H or short cord connector terminal D during on-board diagnostic function operation.
- When hazard warning light flashes: Alternates between B+ and below 1.0 V
• Is voltage as above?
Yes
Recheck malfunction symptoms, then repeat from Step 1 if malfunction recurs.
No
• Inspect wiring harness between keyless unit and flasher unit.
- If wiring harness is OK, replace keyless unit and reprogram transmitter ID code, then go to Step 11.
- If there is wiring harness malfunction, repair wiring harness, then go to Step 11.
7

MAKE SURE THAT ALL DOORS LOCK AND UNLOCK DURING ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS

• Did all doors unlock and lock during on-board diagnostic function operation?
Yes
Recheck malfunction symptoms, then repeat from Step 1 if malfunction recurs.
No
Go to next step.
8

INSPECT DOOR LOCK LINKAGE

• Operate inner door lock knob and make sure door locks and unlocks manually.
• Does every door lock system work?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Inspect door lock linkage.
*9

CHECK TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR, DOOR LOCK TIMER UNIT GROUND CIRCUIT OR ELSEWHERE

• Measure voltage at keyless unit connector terminal O or short cord connector terminal F during on-board diagnostic function operation.
- With double locking system or theft-deterrent system
• All door locked: 5→2.5→5 V
• All door unlocked: 5→below 1.0 V→5 V
- Other
• All door locked: B+→6 V→B+
• All door unlocked: B+→below 1.0 V→B+
• Is voltage as above?
Yes
Recheck malfunction symptoms, then repeat from Step 1 if malfunction recurs.
No
• Inspect door lock timer unit connector.
• Inspect wiring harness between keyless unit and door lock timer unit.
- If above parts are OK, go to next step.
- If above parts malfunction, repair malfunctioning part.
*10

CHECK TO SEE WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN KEYLESS UNIT OR DOOR LOCK TIMER UNIT

• Measure voltage at door lock timer unit connector terminal F.
• Is voltage as follows?
- With double locking system or theft-deterrent system: 5 V
- Other: B+
Yes
Replace keyless unit and reprogram transmitter ID code, then go to next step.
No
Replace door lock timer unit, then go to next step.
11

RECHECK MALFUNCTION SYMPTOM AFTER REPAIR

• Does keyless entry system operate properly?
Yes
Troubleshooting completed.
Explain repairs to customer.
No
Recheck malfunction symptoms, then repeat from Step 1 if malfunction recurs.
