NO.4 WINDSHIELD FOGS

BME070300000W06

4

Windshield fogs.

DESCRIPTION

• Front climate control unit's FRESH indicator light does not illuminate while airflow is in DEFROSTER mode or HEAT/DEFROSTER mode.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• Front climate control unit (IG2 signal) system malfunction
• Front air intake actuator malfunction
• Front climate control unit (RECIRCULATE, FRESH signal) system malfunction
• Malfunction in blower unit's air intake doors

• When performing an asterisked (*) troubleshooting inspection, shake the wiring harness and connectors while doing the inspection to discover whether poor contact points are the cause of any intermittent malfunctions. If there is a problem, check to make sure connectors, terminals and wiring harnesses are connected correctly and undamaged.

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

Go to Step 1 of troubleshooting index No.11.
2
INSPECT A/C FUSE
• Is A/C fuse okay?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
• Inspect blown fuse's circuit for short to ground.
- Repair or replace as necessary.
- Install appropriate amperage fuse.
3
INSPECT FRONT AIR INTAKE ACTUATOR
• Inspect front air intake actuator as follows.
- Is there grease on link?
- Is link securely and properly positioned?
- Is link free of obstructions?
• Are above items okay?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Apply grease or install link properly and securely, remove obstruction, then go to Step 15.
*4
INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN FUSE BLOCK AND FRONT CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT FOR CONTINUITY
• Turn ignition switch to ON position.
• Disconnect front climate control unit connector (12-pin).
• Test voltage at front climate control unit connector (12-pin for air intake mode).
- Terminal B (IG2 signal)
• Is voltage approximately B+?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Repair wiring harness between fuse block and front climate control unit, then go to Step 15.
5
VERIFY WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN BLOWER UNIT'S AIR INTAKE DOORS OR ELSEWHERE
• Does front air intake actuator link repeatedly alternate between fresh mode and recirculate mode?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Go to Step 8.
6
INSPECT FRONT AIR INTAKE ACTUATOR
• Inspect front air intake actuator.
• Is it okay?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Replace front air intake actuator, then go to Step 15.
7
INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN FRONT CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT AND FRONT AIR INTAKE ACTUATOR FOR SHORT TO GROUND
• Turn ignition switch to LOCK position.
• Is there continuity between following front climate control unit connector (12-pin for air intake mode) terminals and ground?
- Terminal C (FRESH signal)
- Terminal E (RECIRCULATE signal)
Yes
Repair wiring harness between front climate control unit and front air intake actuator, then go to Step 15.
No
Replace front climate control unit, then go to Step 15.
8
VERIFY WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN FRONT AIR INTAKE ACTUATOR SYSTEM OR BLOWER UNIT'S AIR INTAKE DOORS
• Remove front air intake actuator.
• Turn ignition switch to ON position.
• Set front fan switch to 4th position.
• Does air intake mode (RECIRCULATE, FRESH) change smoothly when air intake link is operated by hand?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Go to Step 13.
9
INSPECT FRONT AIR INTAKE ACTUATOR
• Inspect front air intake actuator.
• Is it okay?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Replace front air intake actuator, then go to Step 15.
*10
INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN FRONT CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT AND FRONT AIR INTAKE ACTUATOR FOR CONTINUITY
• Turn ignition switch to LOCK position.
• Is there continuity between following front climate control unit connector (12-pin for air intake mode) terminals and front air intake actuator connector terminal?
- Terminal C-Terminal C (FRESH signal)
- Terminal E-Terminal A (RECIRCULATE signal)
Yes
Go to next step.
No
Repair wiring harness between front climate control unit and front air intake actuator, then go to Step 15.
*11
INSPECT WIRING HARNESS BETWEEN FRONT CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT AND AIR INTAKE CONTOL UNIT AND FRONT AIR INTAKE ACTUATOR FOR SHORT TO GROUND
No
Go to next step.
*12
VERIFY WHETHER MALFUNCTION IS IN WIRING HARNESS (BETWEEN FRONT CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT AND FRONT AIR INTAKE ACTUATOR FOR SHORT TO B+) OR FRONT CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT
• Turn ignition switch to ON position.
• Test voltage at following front climate control unit connector (12-pin for air intake mode) terminals.
