Fiat Marea is a family car available in sedan and station wagon bodies (Fiat Marea Weekend), produced by the Italian carmaker Fiat. Created in 1996, the Marea models were essentially variants of the Bravo and Brava hatchbacks. The Marea models replaced the earlier Fiat Tempra, based on the Fiat Tipo. While the successor to the Marea Weekend was the Fiat Stilo Multiwagon, the 2007 sedan was replaced by the Fiat Linea.
Initially, Marea was produced at the Cassino and Marifiori Fiat plants in Italy. Later, they also replaced Tempra at Brazilian and Turkish (Tofaş) plants, which mainly produce cars for local and other emerging markets.
In 2000, the model was upgraded, changing the front bumper and equipment.
The Brazilian version was restyled in 2001 when it received a redesigned rear end with taillights taken from the Lancia Lybra.
In Europe, production and sales of the Marea ceased in 2002, a year after the Fiat Bravo and Brava were replaced by the Fiat Stilo. Marea station wagons have been replaced by the Stilo station wagon, while the sedan has been eliminated altogether due to the relatively low popularity of compact sedans in Europe. However, the Marea (in both body shapes) is still produced in Turkey and Brazil for local (and other Latin American) markets.
In 2006, Marea underwent another restyling, getting a new rear end, and a new grille similar in style to other current Fiat models.
In mid-2007, Brazilian production of Marea and Marea Weekend ceased; their successor, the Fiat Linea, has been in production since mid-2007.
